Double action knives are a unique breed. In contrast to your average kitchen knife, they do not contain a blade that can be rapidly retracted and brought out again. Rather, the blade is contained in two separate pieces: a handle that runs up and over the blade, and a blade that is Retracted or "conched," into a sheath on the bottom of the knife. These knives make it easier for cooks to perform tasks such as slicing, dicing, and chopping, all with the advantage of having the blade hidden from view. Some of the more sophisticated Double Action Knives are even able to fold up to form a pocket knife, click here for more information. The Schrade Double Action line of knives features both types of action. The handle is an eight inch drop-point style that offers the user a comfortable grip. A textured black rubberized grip provides added grip and makes these knives easy to carry and manage. These double action knives are ideal for cooks and come in a black waffle design and a regular black handle. The Schrade OTF knives, also made by Schrade, feature the same drop point style as the double action knives, but feature a clip that allows it to be clipped onto clothing or other items. As with double action knives, the clip can be manually or automatically extended as needed. When the clip is manually extended, the fingers of the user are protected from any injury should they choose to retract the clip. Automatic retracting clips, on the other hand, may cause accidental injuries to the user should they be pressed accidentally, you can view here for more details. Two other types of Double Action Knives are available from Schrade. One is the Schrade Vicious Glass Breaker, which offers the same great features as the glass breaker, with the addition of a safety pick. This double action feature allows the user to flip up the handle of the knife, much like a glass breaker, when it is in contact with a glass object. When the handle is released, the blade automatically folds down and the surface it is on is now safe to handle. The pick, on the other hand, allows the user to deflect flying objects off of the handle so that they do not harm themselves. Another type of Double Action Knife is called the Double Threat II. This knife has a safety pick attached to the handle so that it will only open if you simultaneously remove your hand and push down on the blade. The handle does not pivot, and the blade does not extend beyond the handle. This type of knife is made for use in situations where there may be danger from a distance and is especially useful for protecting yourself when fighting back against an attacker. The Schrade Ventrue is another line of knives which makes use of the double-action mechanism. Ventrue has two styles of knives, the Enlarged Bladed dagger and the Enlarged Compact Bladed. Both styles of the Ventrue contain the patented Enlargement opening which, among other benefits, increases the overall length of the knife by allowing the blade to be opened in a situation where the knife would normally fold over. The compact model, however, does not contain this mechanism. You can click here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_knife for more details about this topic.
